Introduction
The Historic Broadway District of Downtown Los Angeles represents an era of significant economic development and technological innovation. However, its development has had long-standing effects on the surrounding populations.
Noticing the lack of data regarding the socioeconomic impacts of the Broadway Theatre district (specifically recent pushes towards it’s commercialization) at least as presented in the LA Times in the early 1900s, we made use of digital humanities tools to begin the process of filling this gap.
Research Questions:
What is at stake when it comes to the adaptive re-use of buildings to regenerate the inner-city (Broadway)?
What are the socio-economic impacts that resulted from the development of the Historic Broadway District?
